- The American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines for Pediatricians Treating Patients with Down syndrome: Parents, have you been looking for information to share with your pediatrician regarding the medical care of your child? Have you heard about a certain test or procedure that you think your child might benefit from and are having a difficult time convincing your pediatrician of the value of such a test/procedure? Do you have difficulty communicating with your doctor about certain medical topics related to your child? Take a look at the AAP Guidelines for information that might be helpful to you and your pediatrician. DO NOT ASSUME your pediatrician knows about these guidelines.
